Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone within the work place wanting and needing to gain the skills and knowledge on how to assess a situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in a first aid situation. This course is taught to the current accepted first aid practices and in accordance with the Health and Safety (first aid) regulations 1981.

Course duration: 3 days (18 hours)

How long will the qualification last?

The Certificate is valid for 3 years.

What topics are covered?
Unconscious (including seizure)
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
Minor bleeding including grazes and splinter removal
Serious Bleeding and Shock
Burns and scalds
Bone, Muscles and joint injuries
Spinal and Head Injuries
Chest injuries
Eye injuries
Sudden poisoning
Anaphylactic shock including the use of an Epi pen
Heart attack, Stroke, Epilepsy, Asthma
Understanding the role of the first-aider
The importance of preventing cross infection
The need for recording incidents and actions

Additional information

The HSE strongly recommend that certificate holders complete a 3 hour annual refresher course to ensure skills are kept up to date. To requalify in the First Aid at Work qualification a candidate only needs to complete a two day requalification course and no longer the full three day course.
